OVERVIEW

Despite advances in therapy, heart failure remains an important public health problem in the US today. The past year has been a particularly dynamic one for the development of new strategies for dealing with the heart failure pandemic. The Symposium provides expert insight into evolving heart failure management strategies. The curriculum includes updates on treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, use of biomarkers, management of hyponatremia, treatment of cardiac ischemia, discussion of the role of the new anti-coagulant agents, indications for use of ICDs and CRT, management of sleep disordered breathing, use of new imaging modalities to assess risk, and new approaches for treating mitral regurgitation. In addition, there will be talks on the role of digoxin, the use of hydralazine and nitrates and the emergence of new drugs, such as LCZ696 and ivrabadine, that will be used in the future. Lectures from experts in the field are combined with case presentations and interactive panel discussions. The 15th Annual UCSD Heart Failure Symposium will continue the tradition of providing cutting edge information about heart failure in a form that enhances adaption into clinical practice.
