OVERVIEW
The 2014 symposium "Translating the Biophysics of Molecular Switches: Signaling Mechanisms and Inhibition of Ras and Rho GTPases" will begin on Thursday, July 17 and conclude on Sunday, July 20.
Small GTPases of the Ras and Rho family function as molecular switches which control numerous signaling pathways that critically regulate cellular growth and motility. Building upon a long tradition of structural and biochemical exploration, new mechanisms have recently been discovered involving these GTPases; specifically, the role of phosphorylation, ubiquitination, intra†and interâ€protein allostery, as well as new effector and regulatory protein interactions. This meeting will provide an overview of the frontline research that is establishing these novel paradigms for small GTPase signaling. While covering a range of topics, this meeting will integrate the development and application of biophysical and computational methods that have significantly reshaped our understanding of Ras and Rho GTPases with biological analyses that allow for the emergence. These translational aspects will be highlighted in the sessions as well as in the keynote talk.
The meeting will also start with a special session for young investigators with a discussion on topics important for career development. This abstract-driven meeting will provide ample opportunities to interact and share findings in a relaxed, collegial atmosphere.
