Symposium Neuroradiologicum

When the WFNRS was founded in 1993, it was very much the creation of one of the most visionary neuroradiologists during the 20th century, Professor Derek C Harwood-Nash. He was an excellent paediatric neuroradiologist from Toronto and Canada.

Derek Harwood-Nash saw the success of the only true world meeting in neuroradiology every four years, Symposium Neuroradiologicum, and felt that its structure, with a reinvented organisation with great financial involvement of the President, was rather fragile and too vulnerable to survive in an ever tougher world. A Federation of Neuroradiological Societies around the world was formed to provide support for the Symposium which was also designated the major acitivity of the Federation.

Other activities of the Federation are to foster cooperation between neuroradiological organizations with the aim to enhance a prominent position of neuroradiology within radiology and neurosciences. The exchange and dissemination of knowledge, ideas, the highest possible standards of practice and education, research and training were to be encouraged through support of symposia and meetings. The rapid development during the last decade of the world wide web has changed the conditions completely and the emergence of virtual societies and net works has ment a necessary change in focus for the Federation.

The WFNRS is the organization providing support and energy behind the Symposium while the practical arrangement of the XXth Symposium Neuroradiologicum very much is the work of the Symposium President, Professor Turgut Tali.
