OVERVIEW

The intent of this course is to bridge the gap between current practices in and around the Detroit area, and ideal practices that will ultimately lead to optimal patient outcomes. Topics presented at this event include: use of donor breast milk in the NICU; long term benefits of neonatal caffeine therapy for apnea prematurity; neonatal abstinence syndrome; global perspectives on perinatal death and stillbirth; using the transcriptome to investigate the etiology of cerebral palsy and other neurodevelopmental disorders; neonatal blood transfusion practices; and recent trials of oxygen saturation targeting in extremely preterm infants. Area experts in the Society of Michigan Neonatologists have identified a significant need for education on the above topics to be presented.
