OVERVIEW
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an established evidence-based practice for promoting positive health
behaviors. This strategy uses an individual’s own beliefs to support positive change towards health goals.
Health Professionals from many disciplines can use this tool to collaboratively coach individuals. This
program will provide the basics of using MI and implementation of MI into practice. MI is effective
for substance abuse issues, and this program will cover administration of a Brief Alcohol Intervention, a
specific MI strategy to reduce excessive alcohol use.
