OVERVIEW

Held every other year, the Gordon Research Conference on Hemostasis is the premiere scientific meeting on the topics of blood coagulation, platelet biology, and anti-coagulant pathways that regulate human disease. The meeting was first organized by Earl W. Davie and Oscar Ratnoff in 1973 and has a well-established national and international reputation. The Hemostasis Gordon Conference brings together investigators from multiple disciplines who are interested in the biology, biochemistry, and genetics of platelets and coagulation proteins, physicians interested in the treatment of bleeding and thrombotic diseases and biotechnologists from small and large pharma who are focused on improving and developing therapies that address hemostatic problems.

The next conference will be held on July 27th - August 1st, 2014 at Waterville Valley Conference Center, Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. The conference site provides a comfortable and inviting location for all participants, including a Pinnacle Award Conference Center that is surrounded by the White Mountains of New Hampshire and has ~15,000 square feet of flexible, highly functional space. Numerous recreational activities are available to participants including biking, hiking, golf, tennis, boating, swimming, and the Waterville Valley Arts Center. Waterville Valley is only two hours north of Boston, making travel to and from convenient for attendees from the United States, Canada, and abroad. All accommodations are accessible to people with disabilities.

A primary goal of the conference organizers is that nearly every person attending the conference participates as a speaker, discussion leader, or poster presenter. Four poster sessions will be held before dinner on four of the five days, with space available for 30-40 posters per session. These sessions are always well attended and provide a dedicated forum for interaction among junior and senior investigators in the field. The conference Vice-Chairs, James Morrissey and Jorge DiPaola, will be responsible for organizing the poster sessions and the selection of top posters for presentation as a series of short talks in a “Late-Breaking Topics" session on Wednesday evening.

Afternoons will be open for informal discussion among attendees and leisure activities that enhance interactions, catalyze intellectual exchange, and create new collaborations - a traditional and unique component of the Hemostasis Gordon Conference. All applicants who are not invited speakers or discussion leaders are encouraged to submit an abstract for presentation at one of the four scheduled poster sessions and consideration for an oral presentation at the Late-Breaking Topics session.
