OVERVIEW
Upon completion of this symposium, participants should be better able to:
Diagnose Internet addiction and identify subtypes of Internet addiction.
Implement the treatment models currently used in Internet addiction recovery.
Implement treatment plans that include talk therapies, such as exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, in conjunction with medication management, when appropriate, for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) patients.
Consider virtual reality therapy as an alternative to traditional exposure therapy.
Explain complex trauma and its relationship to traditional PTSD.
Delineate the current DSM V revised criteria for diagnosis of PTSD.
Identify socio-demographic factors (gender, age, ethnicity) associated with caregiver burden and caregiver burnout.
Recognize early signs of caregiver burnout and identify strategies to assist the caregiver in coping with burnout.
Describe common mental health symptoms associated with formal and informal caregiving and implement interventions to ameliorate these symptoms.
