eeds Assessment The UC Davis Health System is committed to discovering and sharing knowledge to advance health. This course is designed to change physician and other health-care provider competence in the management of patients with a diversity of infectious diseases based on national guidelines and other state-of-the-art tools. Healthcare associated with infections are an important patient safety goal for which competence needs to be demonstrated. This program is designed in response to participant evaluations from previous activities and the annual physician needs assessment survey. Faculty presenting and interacting with participants at this activity have been selected on the basis of their comprehensive clinical experience and academic excellence. Infectious diseases is an area of medicine that is constantly changing. New pathogens are identified, old pathogens reemerge, and newer therapeutic strategies are defined. This program provides a review and update of practical information for internists, family physicians, infectious diseases specialists, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, and others who manage patients with infectious diseases. Special features include: • Laboratory exercises designed to simulate clinical experience with the use of the clinical microbiology laboratory and the management of cases seen in practice. • A choice of workshop sessions for practical smaller group discussions of a variety of clinical issues.
