The conference will review the latest concepts in the management of ischemic stroke. The goal is to
provide the practitioner with knowledge of accurate diagnosis and treatment of ischemic stroke,
including treatment options for both primary and secondary stroke prevention. Acute stroke therapy
will be presented using intravenous thrombolytics and neuroendovascular techniques, including
the latest mechanical thrombectomy devices. Case presentations will review individual patient
assessment and decision for treatment. A ‘walk-through’ of stroke a patient will be conducted
comprising of transfer of acute stroke patient to designated stroke center, initial evaluation in the
field by EMS and in primary a stroke center emergency room, and steps taken in-hospital to in
-
sure highest quality of care. The usefulness of CT and MRI in acute stroke will be demonstrated.
Benefits of acute physical therapy, medication use in acute rehabilitation, and newer oral agents
for stroke prevention with atrial fibrillation will also be discussed.
