17th meeting of the Leksell Gamma Knife Society

The theme for the meeting is “Giving It Your Best Shot”, which is an English idiom that means “give it your best effort”. This phrase is apt both for the Gamma Knife and for New York City. Success in New York City may only be achieved by giving the best possible effort. By choosing the Gamma Knife, and through the use of multiple shots, the best possible radiosurgical outcome for patients can be achieved.

Stereotactic radiosurgery is hardly a new concept, 63 years after the concept was imagined and the term coined by Lars Leksell. And Gamma Knife radiosurgery has been an established fact for 46 years, allowing for a mature and seasoned analysis of clinical outcomes. Many other radiosurgical technologies have come along in the last four decades, and many of you have worked and still do with linear accelerator or charged particle platforms. And yet none of these worthy tools have had the continued impact of the Gamma Knife, which itself has undergone significant evolution since its birth.

The program will have a variety of invited lectures by known authorities in neurosurgery, radiation oncology, and medical physics, along with special invited talks by prominent figures in other areas of medicine and society. Please note that active audience participation and debate is encouraged – this is your forum to learn about the latest Gamma Knife radiosurgery developments, to share results, to interact with colleagues, and to give your own ideas as to how to advance the field of stereotactic radiosurgery in general and Gamma Knife radiosurgery in particular.
