Mellen Center Update on Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

Welcome to our sixth Mellen Symposium on Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This year we are focusing primarily on new directions in MS.

Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Steven Galetta, who will talk about “Optic Neuritis: Past, Present and Future”. Dr. Galetta specializes in MS and neuro-ophthalmology, and is widely regarded as one of the most entertaining neurologists around.

Each year in this symposium we bring you both new information and ideas about MS and related diseases, as well as updates on key areas important for the care of MS patients. This year we will review new directions in the investigation of progressive MS, an area which has received less attention than it should considering the large number of people affected by it. We will look at our approach to managing risk in the MS population and how we may try to keep patients disease free, both of which bring new directions in personalized medicine to the MS arena.

A variety of topics ranging across the spectrum of MS care will be addressed. As always we will update you on new pharmacology for the MS patient, reflecting the great strides that have been made in the past few years. We will bring you updates on pediatric MS, the use of MRI in differential diagnosis of MS, assessments of gait and stress, and talks on diet and exercise. A unique part of the program will be aimed at you, the MS clinician, focusing on the importance of your work/life balance in the scheme of taking care of a complex, psychologically challenging group of patients.
