Intensive Bioethics Course 39 (IBC39)

The Intensive Bioethics Course is a week-long academic program in bioethics designed for health care practitioners, policy makers, and clinical researchers.

This year's course, "Bioethics: More Relevant Than Ever," will be held June 3-7, 2013. You may register online or by completing the course registration form and submitting it by mail or fax.

The course addresses the day's most challenging topics in health care ethics in a setting that allows for sustained dialogue through lectures and small discussion groups with a distinguished faculty.

Drawing participants from around the globe, the course is truly intensive, with much of the intellectual exchange occurring over shared meals and in extra discussions organized around participants' special interests.

In addition to core lectures on central ethical topics such as beneficence, respect for autonomy, and virtues in the caretaking professions, participants have the opportunity to attend more informal, faculty-facilitated discussions on special topics such as religious ethics, patient vulnerability, and feminist bioethics.

While on the beautiful Georgetown campus, attendees have full access to the Bioethics Research Library, the world's largest collection of bioethics resources.

In addition to more than 300,000 books and articles, the library's holdings include archival materials from federal bioethics commissions, videos and documentaries, course syllabi, and several special collections, such as the Kampelman Collection of Jewish Ethics and the Rose F. Kennedy Collection on Women, Infants, and Children.

Attendance at the IBC begins an ongoing relationship with the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and its resources. Course participants receive a one-year subscription to the Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal.
