EDCAS: When the Servant becomes the Master: Physician in Recovery discusses his journey through Addiction

Dr. Jason Powers will present an authentic and practical understanding of addiction and recovery from a personal perspective as he offers a meaningful glimpse into his understanding of the nature of his addiction and the behaviors associated with it. He will recount his awakening in rehab. Although he knew cognitively what addiction was--- he knew nothing about it experientially until he was forced into a choice between rehab and the one thing he was holding onto for dear life: his medical license. Dr. Powers will discuss his journey to and during active addiction, including failed therapy attempts, and his movement into recovery and beyond from the vantage point of a healthcare professional who discovered his own humanity.
