The ARVO/Alcon Keynote Series is sponsored by the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research through a generous donation from Alcon.

Oliver Smithies, DPhil, the former excellence professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at UNCresearch methods led scientists to create “knock-out mice” which has become commonplace in biomedical research and has been the basis for thousands of published papers.

Roger Tsien's much recent progress in biomedical science has resulted from the invention of molecules that enable us to visualize or photostimulate biochemical pathways in living cells and tissues.

Christopher Murray, MD, DPhil presentation will highlight key findings from the GBD 2010, with a focus on vision loss in the context of the other diseases, injuries and risk factors studied, to demonstrate this impairment’s global impact over the past two decades and implications for future vision research.
