14th World Congress of the International Pancreas and Islet Transplant Association (IPITA 2013) will be held in Monterey, California on September 24-27, 2013. The central coast of California is ideally suited to host a congress of an Association that supports innovation in all strategies of beta cell replacement for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The region is home to several institutions which have well established programs in pancreas as well as islet transplantation. Of equal significance, California is home to several innovators in the biotechnology industry, particularly in the area of stem cell research as a potential new source of beta cells. The timing of this congress is optimal for the next wave of young scientists, as the meeting symposia will revolve around the multiple evolving options for beta cell replacement.
