Liver Cancer Update 2013

There is often a misunderstanding regarding the management of primary liver malignancy with many clinicians viewing this is as a terminal diagnosis. However, the standard of care is dependent on specific patient characteristics. All of the following, either alone or together, may be considered appropriate: surgical resection, liver transplantation, chemoembolization, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. In order to help close this gap in knowledge and performance, this course is designed for physicians and allied health professionals in internal medicine, family practice, oncology, gastroenterology, general surgery and hepatobiliary surgery. The intended result of this live activity is increased knowledge, competence, and performance in the delivery of optimal care for patients with primary liver malignancies. At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

• Discuss the indications for and outcomes from different treatments for primary liver malignancies.

• Discuss the diagnosis of and risk factors for primary liver malignancies.
