Medical Biotechnology is organized by VIB Conference Series and will be held during May 24 - 25, 2018 at Ghent University - Aula, Gent, East Flanders, Belgium.
“New research issues in the life sciences require new research tools,” said Nico Callewaert of the VIB-UGent Center for Medical Biotechnology and organizing committee member of this conference. “We are pushing back the limits of bio-analytical and bioengineering tools to arrive at a new technological approach to drug development, diagnostics, vaccines, therapies, etc.”
With this conference on Medical, Biotechnology VIB will bring together experts in the field to discuss the new developments and future challenges in this field. During four plenary sessions, the following topics will be covered:
• biopharmaceutical technology
• targeted delivery
• diagnostics & biomarkers
• vaccines

New York School of Regional Anesthesia (NYSORA) Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia Boot Camps are organized by New York School of Regional Anesthesia (NYSORA) and will be held during May 24 - 25, 2018 at Hospital East Limburg AV, Genk, Limbourg, Belgium.
Course Description :
The course is structured to give participants a back-to-back training on all aspects of orthopedic regional anesthesia from premedication, selection of regional anesthesia procedures, regional anesthesia administration, intraoperative management, and postoperative care. The training will fluctuate between interactive didactic lessons in between the cases, to review the pertinent technique details before and after each regional anesthesia procedure. NYSORA’s team will also include an additional expert who will assure that all participants receive sufficient personalized, one-on-one training.
The participants will join NYSORA team administering between 15 and 30 nerve block procedures in patients. The nerve block procedures will include: interscalene blocks, supraclavicular blocks, infraclavicular blocks, auxiliary blocks, high and low fascia iliaca blocks, femoral nerve blocks, femoral triangle and adductor canal blocks, saphenous blocks, sciatic blocks, popliteal blocks, ankle blocks, posterior tibial blocks, femoral blocks, forearm and cutaneous blocks.
Course Objectives are :
• Bullet-proof medical-legal documentation of regional anesthesia procedures.
• Hands-on technique and clinical demonstration of monitoring of peripheral nerve block procedures.
• Demonstration of needle nerve contacts and maneuvers to inject local anesthetic safely.
• Clinical examples (in patients) of local anesthetic distribution that leads to safe and successful peripheral nerve block procedures.
• Step by step standardized approach to most extremity block procedures.
• Selection of specific local anesthetic mixtures and additives for specific patient and surgery scenarios.
• Anatomy pattern recognition in patients and models throughout both days of training.
• Access to a multitude of patient management protocols.
• Understanding of multi-modal analgesia protocols for total knee and total hip arthroplasty.
• 3-D anatomy and NYSORA’s Reverse Ultrasound Anatomy programs.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Monothematic Conference on the Gut-Liver Axis is organized by European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) and will be held during Jun 07 - 09, 2018 at Irish College, Leuven, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. The target audience for this medical event is for clinicians, basic and translational researchers and industry in this emerging area of hepatology.
Conference Description :
The meeting has been organized as 8 sessions that will address these goals. Talks will cover the importance of the gut-liver axis in relevant areas of Hepatology, including advanced cirrhosis, and liver disease secondary to alcohol, fat deposition or autoimmunity. Emerging areas such as the influence of gut microbiota on drug metabolism and on hepatobiliary malignancies will also be covered. Further, the conference will specifically examine therapies designed to modify the components of the gut-liver axis, such as bile acid signaling, fecal transplantation, adsorbent carbons, and pro- and antibiotics, among others. The conference will focus on interactions among the microbiota, epithelial barrier, and host both in health and in liver disease.
The conference will be a forum of interest, discussion, and information for both clinical hepatologists and basic and translational researchers. In line with other recent EASL events, we will count on the active participation of partners from industry. Sessions will include presentations by eminent scientists on evidence-based translational research from academia and industry. We hope the conference will act as a platform to facilitate interaction and research networking among academia, industry and the scientific audience. In this regard, active researchers in this field will have the chance to submit data from ongoing projects that will be presented as e-posters.
Conference Goals :
• The physiological basis of interplay between the gut flora and host intestinal immune system.
• The role of gut microbiota in different liver diseases.
• The impact of liver disease on the intestinal barrier.
• Targets for intervention and therapeutic tools..
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
