Brain metastasis in lung cancer is organized by Physicians' Institute for Professional Development in Healthcare Lakarnas institut for professionell utveckling i sjukvarden (LIPUS) and will be held on Dec 04, 2020 at Lundqvist & Lindqvist KLARA STRAND, Stockholm, Sweden. Target Audience: Doctors in specialist training / ST, Completed specialists (Continuing education) Description: Treatment of brain metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a complex clinical problem. Whole-brain irradiation is of limited benefit and can lead to serious side effects. Stereotactic steel therapy also has limited benefit but may be relevant in patients with a few brain metastases. Surgery, with its attendant risk of complications, only applies to a small group of patients. Targeted therapies for oncogenically driven tumors, on the other hand, have been shown to be effective against brain metastases, but therapy resistance is a common problem in these cases. Overall goals: In this national course on brain metastatic NSCLC, we will summarize and discuss available treatment options for brain metastatic NSCLC. Our goal is to guide clinicians in decision-making of treatment for this difficult patient group Results for the participant: The aim of the course is to give the participant a good guide on how each lung cancer patient with brain metastases should be treated in the best evidence-based way and adapted to the patient's disease situation. Therefore, the course program has the structure that all possible treatment steps are presented and discussed. Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.

Tumor orthopedics Course is organized by Karolinska Institute and will be held from Jan 27 - 29, 2021 at Karolinska University Hospital, Solna, Stockholm, Sweden. Start date: 27 January 2021 End date: 29 January 2021 Need Description: Benign tumors of the skeleton and soft tissues are relatively common. As an orthopedist, it is important to be able to diagnose these and have knowledge of who requires treatment, which is usually done at an orthopedic tumor center. Sarcomas are very uncommon and differential diagnosis against other more common orthopedic disorders is sometimes difficult. It is important to know the symptoms and investigation and get guidelines on which findings cause referral to the tumor orthopedic center for diagnosis and treatment. These patients are often subjected to advanced reconstructions, which can also sometimes be applied to more common orthopedic conditions such as advanced prosthetic loosening and common joint fractures. It is therefore valuable for orthopedists to know the indications and complications of such special prostheses. Palliative orthopedic surgery for skeletal metastasis is increasingly in demand due to increased prevalence of cancer patients and increased opportunity for good surgical palliation despite advanced skeletal destruction. It is important that orthopedists are aware of the indications for surgery for pathological fractures and for paralysis due to vertebral metastases so that these patients really get relief. Many of these patients can be operated on in non-specialized clinics and here orthopedists must have knowledge of reconstruction methods. Course Objectives: Overall goals: • Gain knowledge about symptoms, diagnostics and treatment of patients with primary tumors in the musculoskeletal system as well as knowledge about treatment and complications. • Gain knowledge about skeletal metastasis, its investigation and indications for different types of palliative measures and then mainly orthopedic surgery. Additional details will be posted as soon as information is available.
