Tyler S. Oesterle, M.D., M.P.H., is a senior associate consultant in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Dr. Oesterle also serves as medical director of the Fountain Centers Chemical Dependency Treatment Program in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2016 and holds the academic rank of instructor in psychiatry at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Dr. Oesterle earned his B.A. with honors in English and psychology at Brigham Young University and his M.D. at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, followed by his M.P.H. at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. He subsequently completed both a residency, where he served as a chief resident and a fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Oesterle’s clinical interest in rural mental health with a focus on child and adolescent psychiatry and addiction psychiatry.

His research focuses on adolescent addiction. He has given many presentations on his work and has authored journal articles, abstracts, and other written publications. In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Oesterle has been active in education and mentoring. He was a member of a Curriculum Task Force involved in the development of a new academic curriculum for all Mayo Clinic psychiatry residents and participated in the development of computer-based educational modules for the psychiatry residents. He also implemented the use of virtual patient software in the psychiatry residency program.
