Tissa R. HataChief, Director, Professor | San Diego, California
Dr. Hata is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Dermatology, Clinical Service Chief for Dermatology and Director of the UC San Diego Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. Hata joined UC San Diego in 2001. She received her medical degree at the University of Southern California School of Medicine and completed her dermatology residency at Harvard Medical School, Chief Resident in her final year.
During her time at Harvard, she conducted several cutting-edge clinical trials at the Laser Center - Massachusetts General Hospital; her interest in clinical trials and lasers has continued throughout her career. At the University of Idaho, she helped develop the Raman Laser for noninvasive readings of carotenoid levels in the skin and oversaw work in clinical trials in this arena.
Since her move to UC San Diego, she has continued with her National Institutes of Health study section meetings to assess clinical trial work of other investigators, as well as her own clinical research projects. Her clinical research currently has several ongoing clinical trials, including new biologic treatments for psoriasis, ongoing trials in the detection of melanoma, clinical trials in atopic dermatitis and acne rosacea, and a National Institutes of Health-funded study with Dr. Richard Gallo, examining the risks for eczema vaccinatum in atopic dermatitis patients. One of their newest projects involves the use of oral Vitamin D to decrease the risk of infections in atopic dermatitis patients.
