Dr. Thomas G. Boyce treats children with severe or complicated infections including immune system complications from cancer treatments, influenza, or HIV.

He chose infectious disease because he gets to act like a detective, piecing together the symptoms to figure out the disease.

“Everybody has different interests that suit their personalities and I think the infectious disease is interesting,” Boyce said. “An infectious disease practice varies a lot based on the setting. In a hospital patients are sick, but in the outpatient setting, usually, it is more assessing kids who are pretty well at the moment, but have a history.”

He has always enjoyed taking care of children because they are fun to be around. Above all, he believes that the needs of his patients should always come first.

“It is a simple philosophy, but if we keep the needs of the patient in the forefront, we will go the extra mile to help them the best we can,” Boyce said.

Boyce attended medical school at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin – Hospitals and Clinics in Madison and fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

In his practice, Boyce is also excited to be able to participate in infectious disease research and help train residents.

Having grown up in the upper peninsula of Michigan, Wisconsin feels like home to Boyce. He especially enjoys the people and all of the seasons this area has to offer. He and his wife enjoy tennis and downhill and cross country skiing.
