Terry (Traolach S) Brugha is Professor of Psychiatry, Deputy Head, and Director of Research, Department of Health Sciences University of Leicester, Honorary Consultant Adult General Psychiatrist, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. In 2008 the UK National Research Assessment Exercise (RAE2008) rated 95% of the Department’s research outputs as international in quality and 10% as in the highest world leading class. Educated University College Dublin (NUI) and Institute of Psychiatry London. Formerly Research Worker, Medical Research Council, and Lecturer Institute of Psychiatry London (1980-87), Senior Medical Officer, Department of Health, London (1995-97). Currently Associate Editor, Psychological Medicine (Cambridge University Press). Previously Secretary General, International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology. Throughout his career studies of social support networks have been at the centre of his interests across common and severe mental illness.
