Susan L. Crockin is a senior scholar at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Where she teaches assisted reproductive technology (ART) law and comparative and international ART law, and a faculty affiliate at the Kennedy Institute of Ethics where she is the PI on a grant developing “Jones Rounds,” an interdisciplinary medical education program addressing ART’s legal, ethical, and medical issues. She has devoted her career to the emerging legal issues surrounding the ARTs, particularly the impact of scientific and medical advances on existing tenets of family, health, and reproductive law. Crockin has published three books, including Legal Conceptions, co-authored with Howard W. Jones, Jr. (2010), numerous chapters, peer-reviewed articles, and a nationally published legal column titled “Legally Speaking.”

She is a member of the ethics committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), a founding member of its legal professional group and of the American Academy of Reproductive Technology Attorneys, was an official observer for NCCUSL’s model Uniform Parentage Act 2017, a reporter for NCCUSL’s embryo and gamete disposition legislation study committee, and is a member of ASRM’s Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology model consent committee.

Crockin heads the Crockin Law & Policy Group, created in 1988 as one of the first U.S. law firms devoted exclusively to the intertwined legal aspects of assisted reproductive technologies and adoption, where she currently advises medical and ART-affiliated programs.

Crockin holds a J.D. from Northeastern University Law School and a B.A. from Tufts University.
