Peter Sidebotham is an Emeritus Professor of child health. Peter joined the medical school in January 2005, and combined clinical work as a consultant pediatrician and designated doctor for child protection and child death review with an academic career as an associate professor/reader. Peter's major research interests include research into the epidemiology of child maltreatment, the epidemiology of sudden childhood death, and health services research in child death review and responding to child deaths. Peter contributed to the development of national policies and procedures and training materials in child protection and child death review. Since his retirement in 2018, Peter has continued to pursue academic interests in child protection and child death review in the UK and overseas, including consultancies for the Department for Education, and for UNICEF and the Jordanian government. He is a member of the National Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel, co-editor of the journal Child Abuse Review, and a Board member of the Lullaby Trust and the Association of Child Protection Professionals.
