Peter Iserbyt received his PhD in Physical Education at KU Leuven in 2011 and currently holds the position of Assistant Professor within the Department of Movement Sciences of KU Leuven where he is a member of the Physical Activity, Sports & Health Research Group.

His research combines two complementary domains. The first is the improvement of instruction in elementary and secondary Physical Education (PE). His focus lies on how content knowledge improves teaching and learning in PE. More specifically, he investigates the effect of content knowledge on teacher behavior (pedagogical content knowledge) and how this teacher behavior in turn affects student learning. Second, he investigates how PE can contribute to the development of a physically active lifestyle by conducting school-based interventions that promote the generalization of engagement in physical activity from PE to extracurricular settings.

Concerning teaching, Peter Iserbyt teaches within the Bachelor-Master curriculum of Physical Education and Movement Sciences at KU Leuven. He is head of the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program and coordinates the Master’s program in Movement Education. Furthermore, Peter Iserbyt translates his educational research into practice through the delivery of workshops for teachers. He yearly organizes 4 days of professional development workshops for elementary and secondary school teachers.
