Dr. Marisa Birkmeier in her role as Director of Clinical Education, Dr. Birkmeier is responsible for all aspects of clinical education within the DPT curriculum. She works collaboratively with clinical faculty and community partners to develop quality clinical experiences that support the goals and mission of the program. Dr. Birkmeier assists students throughout their clinical education by providing orientation to the clinic environment and advising on clinical and professional issues in the classroom and in the clinic. Dr. Birkmeier also teaches Pediatrics and Clinical Conference IV in the second year of the DPT curriculum.

Dr. Birkmeier has practiced Physical Therapy since 2001, primarily with the pediatric population in acute and outpatient settings. Her current practice includes the NICU, children with neuromotor dysfunction, and children with biomechanical alignment issues. She earned a Specialist Certification in Pediatrics (PCS) from the Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2009 to complement her prior certifications in Pediatric Neuro-Developmental Treatment and Kinesio Taping. In addition to clinical work, she is a member of the Cooperative International Neuromuscular Research Group (NRG). This organization works collaboratively through research and treatment to positively impact the lives of individuals and families who are affected by neuromuscular diseases.
