Lana Shiu, M.D., Captain, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps Senior Medical Advisor, Office of Device Evaluation/CDRH/Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Lana Shiu returned to CDRH Office of Device Evaluation to lead combination product device reviews after spending 3 years as the Senior Medical Advisor at Office of Combination Products (within FDA Office of the Commissioner). Dr. Shiu trained at Emory University Internal Medicine Residency to become board-certified in Internal Medicine and currently practices clinical medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
She started out her career as an engineering reviewer for FDA/CDRH after graduating from Vanderbilt University with engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. She left FDA in 1994 to go to medical school on a Navy scholarship and later graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine with her M.D. After her service to the Navy, Dr. Shiu rejoined Food and Drug Administration in 2005 where in the last 10+ years she has honed her expertise in combination products working for Office of Combination Product and also CDRH/Office of Device Evaluation performing Inter-center consult reviews for CDER (Center for Drug Evaluation and Research) and CBER (Center for Biologic Evaluation and Research).
