John Supplitt is senior director of the Section for Small or Rural Hospitals of the American Hospital Association. Since 1993 he has worked with and on behalf of the AHA’s 2000 small or rural hospital members to identify, develop, and advance their unique health care interests, issues, and perspectives. Mr. Supplitt manages the Section’s member services, governance, and communications including its website, newsletters, and technical advisories. He is the AHA’s liaison for rural health care policy and member services to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Rural Health Policy, National Rural Health Association, and state hospital associations. He has served on several national panels and advisory groups for rural health policy, program development and demonstrations, and grant review and evaluation.

Mr. Supplitt has spoken and written extensively on rural hospital strategic planning and innovation as well as rural hospital advocacy and policy and the future of rural health care delivery. He has designed or delivered educational programs and Webinars for rural hospitals on an array of subjects including community benefit, recovery audit contracting, health information technology, quality and patient safety, and health disparities. He has edited technical advisories on rural hospital utilization, finances, services, CAHs, and Universal Service funding.

Mr. Supplitt also directs the AHA Section for Metropolitan Hospitals and staffs the group's advisory committee to the AHA. He plans and designs educational programming for safety-net and community hospitals.

Mr. Supplitt has an MPA from New York University specializing in health planning and policy analysis, an MBA from Loyola University, Chicago, and a B.S. from Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
