Dr. Cota received his Doctor of Pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin in 2005 and a Master of Science in Advanced Pharmacy Practice with an emphasis in infectious diseases research from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007. His thesis work involved studying the cellular response of the pathogenic yeast Candida glabrata after exposure to caspofungin, a member of the echinocandin class of antifungal drugs.
In conjunction with his M.S. degree program, Dr. Cota completed a two-year Specialty Practice Residency in Pharmacotherapy at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio with an emphasis in both infectious diseases and nephrology.
Dr. Cota is a member of several professional organizations including the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), Society for Infectious Diseases Pharmacists (SIDP), American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and the Cochrane Renal Group (CRG). He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and his areas of interest include clinical mycology, anti-infective dosing in patients with reduced kidney function and the clinical application of translational research in infectious diseases.
