J. Andrew Billings

Dr Billings is a general internist, specialist in hospice and palliative medicine and the founder and Director of the Palliative Care Service here at MGH. In addition to his role in starting up home hospice programs and working as a hospice medical director, Dr Billings is a nationally known educator in end-of-life care. He teaches physicians and medical school faculty, and has published many articles and books on palliative medicine. Working with patients, families, and health care providers to address the many serious gaps in end-of-life care has been an enormous privilege and, ironically, deeply satisfying work.
