Dr. Hans-Joachim Anders is s Professor of Nephrology at the University of Munich. Hans-Joachim Anders attended medical school at the Universities of Gottingen and Wurzburg and performed his MD thesis in experimental cardiology. He received his clinical training at the University of Munich under the guidance of Detlef Schlöndorff and became a board-certified internist, nephrologist, rheumatologist, and immunologist. He directs the Division of Nephrology at the Inner City Campus of the University of Munich with its inpatient and outpatient services and personally runs a lupus nephritis clinic. As a professor of nephrology at the University of Munich, he teaches all aspects of clinical nephrology and coordinates the Medical Faculty`s “Molecular Medicine” fellowship program for medical students. His own international research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms of kidney injury, inflammation, and repair with a special interest in translational aspects and preclinical drug testing. He has published more than 350 original articles, reviews, and book chapters and received several national and international awards, e.g., the award for outstanding contributions in basic science in nephrology of the European Renal Association (2018). At present, Dr. Anders is the associate editor of JASN and NDT and serves the ERA and the ISN on various boards devoted to clinical nephrology as well as experimental and translational research.
