Professor Dr. Fausto J. Pinto is a Professor of Medicine and Cardiology, and a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College. He attended the Lisbon University Medical School from 1978 to 1984 and earned a M.D. in Medicine and a Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Science. Afterwards, from 1989 to 1993, he completed a Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship at Santa Maria University Hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, and a Post-Doctoral Fellowship and Clinical Attending in the Echocardiography Laboratory at Stanford University Medical School in the United States. Professor Pinto has language proficiency in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and Italian.

Professor Pinto has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and presently serves as Full Professor of Cardiology at the Lisbon University Medical School in Lisbon, Portugal. He is also the Director of the Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute since 1999 and the President of the Association for Research and Development of the Faculty of Medicine in Lisbon. He was the President and founder of the European Association of Echocardiography (2002-04), a registered branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Professor Pinto was Chairman of the CPC (Congress Program Committee) of the ESC (2008-10) and Vice-President of the ESC for National Societies and Affiliates (2010-12). He was elected as President Elect of ESC (2012-14). Professor Pinto is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), American College of Cardiology (FACC), American Society of Angiology (FASA), Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI) and the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). He is also a Full Member of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine and has served as Editor in Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology since 1999. His main areas of interest are in cardiovascular imaging, particularly on the use of ultrasound in cardiology
