Eric Martin brings more than twenty years of research and development experience to his role as Technical Director of Harvard University’s Center for Nanoscale Systems. As the operational executive for CNS he oversees three significant laboratory facilities for nanofabrication, imaging, materials synthesis and characterization, and nano-computation. These laboratories serve over 1200 users from Harvard and greater New England each year. Prior to arriving at CNS Dr. Martin held engineering management positions for Avici Systems in Billerica, MA where was responsible for hardware development of a carrier-class fiber optical IP router product line generating over $300M in revenue. Avici Systems held its IPO in 2000 raising over $333M. Previously he was Director of Engineering for Lasertron in Bedford, MA overseeing development of fiber optical communications modules and components. Lasertron was acquired by Corning in 1997 for $1.3B. Previously he held program management and technical positions for the Department of the Air Force and Allied Signal Aerospace where his focus was semiconductor device and process development. He has authored more than 40 papers, has been awarded 11 patents, and is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He has a PhD in electrical engineering from U. Maryland, a MS in Engineering Management from Tufts University Gordon Institute, and SM/SB in electrical engineering from MIT.
