Elizabeth Barfield graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill class of 2013. She is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina and has returned to work and reside there. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in African American studies accompanied by a minor in Medical Anthropology. She plans to continue her educational journey by pursuing a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration within the next few years.

She is currently employed at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as a Project Lead Assistant. In summary, the Lean department provides tools to empower and equip all employees with throughout a team and department level to streamline processes and eliminate waste and redundancy within processes in order to achieve optimal results and more touch time with patients. Lean relies on critical thinking, and individual and group initiative; it involves observing, identifying and analyzing barriers that impede work processes and fixing them.
