Dr. Hak has completed his PhD on the real-world effects of vaccinations from Utrecht University and postdoctoral studies from Boston University, Erasmus Rotterdam University, and Johns Hopkins University. He is the chair of the pharmacy unit Pharmacotherapy, -epidemiology & -economics, Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, University Groningen, the Netherlands with 6 professors, 20 PhDs, 3 postdocs, 3 data managers, and educational staff. He supervised 25 PhDs and has published more than 350 publications in reputed journals among which several top publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Lancet Respiratory Medicine.

He is currently project leader of the University Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen PharmLines Initiative (www.pharmlines.nl) combining medication with clinical and biobank cohort data from over 70,000 people from the University Groningen Lifelines Cohort to pursue personalized pharmacotherapy studies. Next to research, he is the educational director of the bachelor and master of Pharmacy and master Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences.
