Dr. Michna is a staff anesthesiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. His clinical focus is pain management. He has board certification in anesthesia, pain management, and palliative care medicine. Dr. Michna trained initially as a pharmacist at Rutgers University and later attended law school and practiced law as a medical malpractice trial attorney. He then attended medical school at University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School and completed his anesthesia training and pain fellowship at Brigham and Women’s. Dr. Michna, who is also boarded in palliative care medicine, joined the hospital as clinical staff after completing his fellowship. Dr. Michna is involved in clinical research and lectures nationally on the legal aspects of pain management. He is active in many national pain societies and is former chairman of the Pain Care Coalition and former chair of the American Pain Society’s Public Policy Committee. He is also active in the Anesthesia Society of America, particularly in the area of professional responsibility.
