Durinda Mattana, RDH, BSDH, MS, received both her Bachelors of Science in Dental Hygiene and a Masters of Science in Dental Hygiene Education degrees from the University of Michigan (U-M). With over 25 years of academic experience, she taught clinical dental hygiene part-time at Oakland Community College and the University of Michigan and for 18 years full-time at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) School of Dentistry where she served in a variety of roles that included teaching Periodontal Instrumentation and Prevention for dental and dental hygiene students and serving as Director of Continuing Dental Education. Her research interests include educational methodologies and fluorides. She is a contributing author to the textbook chapter, Fluorides, for the 9th, 10th, and 11th editions of the The Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist by Esther Wilkins. In January 2010, she left full-time teaching and is currently teaching online courses for UDM and UM, updating the Fluorides chapter in the upcoming 12th edition of the Wilkins textbook, working in private practice, and teaching continuing dental education courses in the areas of oral health products and preventive interventions.
