Chuan-jian Zhong PhD

Dr. Chuan-Jian Zhong is a Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science at the State University of New York at Binghamton. He was Max-Planck-Society’s postdoctoral fellow at Fritz-Haber Institute in 1989 after receiving his Ph.D. degree at Xiamen University. He continued his postdoctoral work at the University of Minnesota and was an associate scientist at Iowa State University/DOE-Ames Laboratory before joining the State University of New York faculty in 1998. His research interests are in the interdisciplinary areas of materials chemistry, analytical chemistry, catalysis, electrochemistry, and nanotechnology, focusing on sustainable energy production, conversion and storage (e.g., catalysts in fuel cells and batteries and hydrocarbon oxidation reactions) and chemical sensing and biomolecular recognition (e.g., nanostructured thin films for sensors and biosensors). He received the NSF Career Award, State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities, Innovation, Creation and Discovery Award, and 3M 2 Faculty Research Award. He is the author of over 230 peer-reviewed research articles with more than 10,000 citations (Web of Science Citation h-index 58, and Google Scholar Citation h-index 63), including about 16 book and book chapters. He is the inventor of 13 US patents and 1 Japan patent related to nanomaterials, clean energy, and chemical sensing applications. He has given more than 150 keynote/invited talks at international conferences, and university, industry, and national laboratory seminars.
