Dr. Carlos Martinez-Salgado, Ph.D., has a basic education in biology and a doctorate with honors (University of Salamanca, 1999). From 2000 to 2002 he conducted a 3-year postdoctoral training at the Max-Delbruck-Centrum in Berlin, Germany, funded by a grant from the European Marie-Curie program. He returned to the University Hospital of Salamanca in 2003 and since then he has established a translational research group focused on the study of chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular and renal damage associated with hypertension and diabetes. He also obtained a position as Associate Professor of Physiology in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Salamanca. Since 2011 its group belongs to the Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL).

The research group is a member of the Spanish National Network for Renal Diseases (REDinREN), the European Renal Association (ERA-EDTA), and the European Society of Translational Medicine (EUSTM). The scientific research of the group is sponsored by Spanish public institutions such as the Institute of Health Carlos III and other ministerial agencies.
