Dr. Bilal Hameed is a hepatologist, or liver specialist, who treats patients with liver disease including patients before and after undergoing liver transplants. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a general certificate in internal medicine and a subspeciality in gastroenterology.
Hameed earned a medical degree at Dow Medical College in Pakistan and completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Minnesota. He completed consecutive fellowships at the University of Minnesota and UCSF in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology.
He is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, American Gastroenterological Association and American Society of Transplantation. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and the recipient of many awards and honors in his field. Hameed, who is fluent in the Punjabi and Urdu languages, is an assistant professor of medicine at UCSF.
