Alka Ahuja is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Gwent NHS Healthcare Trust. Alka did her Psychiatry training in Mumbai, India and obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Psychiatry. She worked as a lecturer at a renowed medical college (Mumbai University) and her research interests included psychopathology in street children and mental health problems among medical students. Many prestigious national awards including the Bhagwat Award (the Highest Ranked National Award for young researchers) was awrded to her for her excellent research work.She came to the United Kingdom in 1998 and did her MRCPsych (Royal College of Psychiatrists, London ) in 2001. During her psychiatry training in South Wales she pursued her research interests and obtained various awards including the World Psychiatry Association Award (2001) and the The Astrazeneca award for excellence in Applied Research, Service Development, Audit & Clinical Governance (2002). She was appointed as a a honorary lecturer at Cardiff University in 2005 and joined the University of Glamorgan in 2006 as a Visiting Fellow.
