Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD)
IRCAD (Institut de Recherche contre les Cancers de l'Appareil Digestif / Research Institute against Digestive Cancer) was founded in 1994 by Prof. Jacques Marescaux within the premises of Strasbourg's University Hospital. It pools a research and development department in computer sciences and a training centre in minimally invasive surgery.
IRCAD has become the world’s leader in education and training in minimally invasive surgery and opened three cutting-edge mirror institutes: in Taiwan in 2008, in Barretos/São Paulo in 2011 and in Rio de Janeiro in June 2017. Two new IRCAD centers will open soon: IRCAD Lebanon (Beyrouth) in 2019 and IRCAD Africa (Kigali, Rwanda) in 2020.
