German Society for Palliative Medicine e. V. / Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Palliativmedizin e. V. (DGP)

Berlin, Berlin, Germany

For more than 25 years, the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP) has stood for interdisciplinary and multi-professional networking as a scientific specialist society: Over 6,000 members from medicine, nursing and other professional groups are committed to comprehensive palliative and hospice care in close cooperation with all those involved.

The common goal is to provide extensive symptom relief and an improvement in the quality of life in the event of severe illness - in whatever environment those affected may wish to do so.

Palliative medicine is dedicated to the treatment and support of patients with an incurable, progressive and well advanced disease with limited life expectancy as well as the support of their relatives. Palliative medicine affirms life and sees dying as a natural process. She rejects active euthanasia.

According to its statutes, the German Society for Palliative Medicine eV (DGP), founded in July 1994, has the task of uniting doctors and other professional groups to work together on the development and progress of palliative medicine and to promote the best possible care for patients in this area.
