Federation of National Specialty Societies of Canada (FNSSC)

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

The Federation of National Specialty Societies of Canada (FNSSC) is a dedicated working group in management excellence for specialty care. It was created as a network of specialty societies to provide an independent and collective voice of specialty medicine on issues of pan-Canadian importance.

The FNSSC was formed to respond to the common needs of these medical societies in such areas as accreditation, continuing professional development, guidelines and advocacy.

The Federation originated with the completion of a questionnaire that revealed there was a need for collaboration on important association management issues. It was felt that the association executives (CEOs/EDs./etc) should meet regularly to discuss issues of membership, meeting management, human resources, publications, journals, etc in an effort to improve efficiency for all and promote growth.

At that time, and still today, there was no other structure where national specialty societies could meet to discuss issues of concern for the administration of individual societies or concerning the role of national specialty societies in Canada.

The FNSSC has recently undergone a major change in its structure and mission, going from a physician centered organization to being an association management centered forum. With this change in focus comes much opportunity for collaboration between the national specialty societies.
