Austeretactical Medicine

To be ill or injured is difficult; however, in the United States there is a doctor at the end of every ambulance ride and an ambulance on the other side of every cell phone. To be ill and injured and have unreliable communication, unpredictable transportation, and limited access to health care requires specialized preparation to maximize the potential for a good outcome. Austere medicine deals specifically with care delivered in situations with limited communication, transportation, and access to health care. We consider lessons learned in domestic law enforcement tactical medicine, military medicine, travel medicine and wilderness medicine.
