Alabama Dermatology Society (ADS)
The Alabama Dermatologic Society was originally founded in 1951 with approximately a dozen members by Dr. Ray Noojin and Dr. Lamar Osment. Drs. Noojin and Osment understood the importance of sharing professional experiences and sought to form what has since become the largest dermatologic society in the Southeastern United States. In recent years the society has grown in membership to over 170 current members and plays host to several high quality, well attended meetings. The membership is drawn from board-certified or board-eligible dermatologists (and dermatology residents-in-training) across the entire state of Alabama and beyond. The breadth of interests and experience of this group is immense and unparalleled since it represents physicians in daily clinical medical and surgical dermatologic practice of adults and children, young doctors in training, dermatopathologists, and academic researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Dermatology Residency Program. The Society meets quarterly with the flagship meeting, The Summer Symposium, taking placing in June. There is also the annual Seminar in the City which is held in NYC and the final two quarterly meetings taking place at the UAB residency program. The program formats includes a variety of clinical vignette presentations, short abstracts of important research work or new therapies, guest lectures and seminars, and a yearly resident competition of clinical studies.
