The Modern Pharmacy Laboratory Series, Part 3 Compounding Calculations is organized by ContinuingEducation.com - OnCourse Learning Corporation and will be held during Mar 31, 2017 - Apr 18, 2020.

The target audience for this medical event is pharmacists. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1.00 Contact Hours.

In December of 2014, 14 employees, including pharmacists and co-founders, of the New England Compounding Center were arrested and charged with second-degree murder due to a deadly outbreak of meningitis caused by contaminated compounds. This devastating event resulted in dozens of deaths and illness in hundreds of others. Pharmacy law in the state of Massachusetts has since adapted a requirement specific to compounding for pharmacists and technicians but the repercussions of this event resonate deeply with providers and patients alike everywhere. This module is designed to review the mathematical and chemical principles of pharmacy compounding.

Conference Objectives are :

The goal of this program is to review key principles necessary for accurately calculating quantities as necessary to formulate various common pharmaceutical compounds. By participating in this activity, individuals that do not routinely compound will be able to understand some of the mathematical and chemical concepts that are involved in interpreting and formulating pharmaceutical compounds. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to:
• Identify key mathematic principles commonly used in various pharmaceutical calculations, such as algebraic proportions.
• Integrate knowledge of chemical and scientific properties into pharmaceutical calculations as appropriate.
• Demonstrate the ability to calculate the necessary amounts of both active and inactive ingredients accurately for the following pharmaceutical preparations:
