Texas Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics, 2nd Edition is organized by Western Schools and will be held from Oct 19, 2017 - Oct 31, 2020. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 2.00 Contact Hours.

Today, nursing is a tightly regulated profession of well-educated, organized, and dedicated nursing professionals who provide a variety of nursing services in numerous healthcare settings (Whelan, 2014). A nurse is required to know and abide by the laws and rules pertaining to the nursing profession. This course is specific to nursing jurisprudence and nursing ethics in the state of Texas. This course provides an overview of the Texas Nurse Practice Act (NPA); nursing peer review; the nurse licensure compact; Board rules and regulations, including sections 217.11 (Standards of Nursing Practice) and 217.12 (Unprofessional Conduct); Board Position Statements and Guidelines; and principles of nursing ethics and professional boundaries. 

Course Objectives:
• List the laws that regulate nursing practice in Texas.
• Describe the purpose, functions, and structure of the Texas Board of Nursing.
• Discuss licensure, certifications, and nursing scope of practice.
• Explain different types of nursing peer review.
• Identify unprofessional conduct and the disciplinary process.
• Discuss nursing ethics including professional boundaries and the use of social media.
