Course Description:
Small Feedings for the Mind: Lung Cancer is the first in a series of online courses featuring brief, practice-oriented discussions on selected cancer topics. The series recognizes the time constraints many practitioners face, and distills important information and strategies for changing practice into key points and tips. Each segment is approximately 15 minutes.

 This course is complimentary to all interested healthcare practitioners and students offered by the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.   

The educational module Small Feedings for the Mind: Lung Cancer covers four areas related to prevention and screening of lung cancer, and how these are affected by public policy and social determinations of health, each presented by expert educator in the field.

Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Identify the potential effects of social determinants in the prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and management of lung cancer in vulnerable populations.
• Alter screening recommendations and management decisions based on the unique needs of vulnerable populations.
• Review the barriers to adherence to follow up protocol adherence scanning, and determine strategies to overcome them.
• Implement communication methods to support patient adherence to protocols.
• Select and recommend appropriate, available smoking cessation and counseling programs to improve  patient adherence to the home programs that match their needs.
• Summarize the public health based strategies related to cancer prevention and screening, and create a plan to incorporate them into clinical practice.
