It is not really "Eating for two," but what are the calorie and nutrient goals during pregnancy? Whether you are just beginning your counseling journey with pregnant women or looking for the most recent research and current dietary guidelines, join us for a discussion of the basics of nutrition during pregnancy from the point of conception up until labor begins. We will review nutrient and calorie needs, DRIs, and dietary guidelines. We will examine current recommendations for food safety during pregnancy, weight gain guidelines and the common complications of pregnancy, and ways that nutrition can affect them.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this one-hour course, the participant should be able to:
• State calorie needs and weight gain guidelines during pregnancy.
• Name the nutrients of concern during pregnancy.
• List the foods that are recommended to avoid during pregnancy.
• Understand the common complications of pregnancy and the impact nutrition can have on them.
